Rodgers Butchers – Purveyors of Fine Meats
I first met Tom when I used to try and sell him wine back in the day. His absolute belief in quality and his resolute ideal that Scotland produces the best meat on the planet, sets him apart from the rest. His MacDuff’s beef is unmatched, once tried you will never go back.
Drumachloy Farm – Rose – Isle of Bute Veal
Reared to a high standard in association with the UK RSPCA‘s Freedom Food programme. The name comes from its pink colour, our Rose Veal is naturally tender and has a wonderful flavour, and we still hang our Rose Veal for seven days to ensure maximum flavour and melt in the mouth texture.
Archie MacMillan—MacMillan Foods
Archie is one of those true finds, recommended by a friend Alan at Dunvalanree way out on the Kintyre Peninsula. I turned up at his doorstep on a winters day in February and was overwhelmed by his passion for all things smoked. He smokes his fish to suit his taste, subtle, delicate and sourced locally, a true food hero.
Thorntonhall Farmhouse Ice Cream
Fresh milk from the morning’s milking, together with Award Winning fresh free range eggs from Corrie Mains Farm the finest natural ingredients carefully blended together to produce a luxurious silky smooth ice cream with a truly exceptional taste. No artificial colours, stabilisers or emulsifiers. What more can we say………..Stunning, delicious, natural Ice Cream made in the South Side of Glasgow.
Sea to Shore
We have to take our hats off to Robbie Galbraith, his seafood and shellfish is second to none. Robbie catches our langoustines and crab and his dad (5th generation fishermen) catches the deep sea fish. Watch this space, I hear he is going to open a shop nearby.
I don’t think there is a quality restaurant in Scotland who does not use Kilmarnock based, Braehead Foods. Certainly Scotland’s finest supplier of meats, game and poultry. Recently added a cook school to their burgeoning list of specialities, and won Scottish Chef’s Supplier of the Year.
Chicken is always one of those products that good chefs tend to avoid, at worst it can be bland, boring and tasteless. We met AJ from St. Brides Farm in Strathaven and she changed our mind, what can we say ………..succulent, packed with flavour and ethically farmed.
James Morrison – Masterbaker
In the never ending search to find quality bread, I have to admit we have given up on Glasgow, we have tried loads but to be honest they don’t stand up to scrutiny. We met James through a friend who used to deal with him years ago. He has set up shop in Edinburgh and after much pushing, he decided to start a delivery run to Glasgow. Thank god, his breads are the best we have ever tasted bar none. Full, weighty, nutty and delicious.
